brittany-is-disgaybled:sarahexplosions:Brittany… true genius! We’re so proud…except Brittany isn’t actually a genius. that should be okay. Brittany doesn’t have to be a genius. Brittany can be other things: like caring, and resourceful, and sarcastic, and mean, and passionate about cats, and loving, and ambitious, and so so many different things.and Brittany doesn’t need to be lied to. Brittany doesn’t need to be told she’s a genius. what Brittany needs is for people to accept her for who she is. what Brittany needs is supports for her disabilities. what Brittany needs is to dance and be with people she loves and who love her back.MIT wasn’t treating her like a genius anyway. she was basically chained to a calculator and treated like some weird creature to study. MIT was canon-ly, explicitly, creepy and horrible for her. it made her miserable.Brittany lovers should not be happy about her getting into MIT. we should have been scared for her, and relieved when she got the fuck out.Reiterating because some people are still confused:Brittany is not a genius. Her SAT score was an accident. She scored zero at MIT’s math test. She scribbled a random series of numbers on the back of the test and the professors found convoluted ways to give them sense. They are not treating her as a genius, but a scientific anomaly. She was unhappy there. The writers didn’t only start taking her seriously when she got to MIT. She was never a joke in the first place. Intellectually disabled characters do not need to have extraordinary skills to make up for their disability. That’s what always happens in media, at least when it comes to main characters, so fandom’s popular headcanons are not surprising, but the show made it very clear that it is not the case here.Brittany can’t count. That’s okay. -- source link
