lieutenanthawteye:It’s my personal headcanon that Riza was about to confess to Roy (in some way) in this scene. She knows that if they don’t succeed — if their plans don’t go right — then they’ll probably die or at the very least be branded as enemies of the state. On top of that she’s worried about him. Because here he is, standing at Maes’ grave just hours before they might be going out to die. She knows something’s wrong, but Roy definitely isn’t the type of person to share his troubles with others. So here she is, trying to take a step forward, trying to be realistic about what’s going to happen. She recognizes that this could very well be the last moment they ever spend alone together. Their last moment before the Promised Day.And she’s about to tell him everything — you can see her trying to work it out in her head. I mean, was there ever any other time in the show where Riza tripped up on her own words? No. And she’s tripping up now because she wants to say something they’ve silently agreed never should be said. So why doesn’t she say it?Because when Roy turns around and gives her that look — well, he knows. He’s telling her, “Not now. Save it for when we get out of this alive.”He’s trying to let her know everything’s gonna be alright but ugh Riza’s face when he walks away — she knows that it might not be.She knows that the likeliness of either of them dying is pretty high — and it nearly does come to that in the end. -- source link
