poetry-protest-pornography: @xshadesofpurple just a few bullet points, because I’m on mobile and short on time/brains: •Dex’s high school girlfriend got pregnant at junior prom, like a total cliché. To make it worse, it was the first time they’d had sex, in the backseat of the station wagon his cousin had given him when she got a newer car (it had been his aunt’s car originally, it’s practically an heirloom but Dex loves working on it) •Leanne had been pushing Dex a little about sex, and leading up to prom she was talking a lot about how it would be special to do it after dancing all night in fancy clothes (he didn’t see the romance in fumbling in a dark parking lot, worrying about seat belts in uncomfortable places and too many elbows in a confined space, but he didn’t want to be the guy that turned down sex with a pretty girl; he couldn’t handle the rumors that’d spark, so he bought condoms at the store where he got her flowers) •Leanne cried when she told him. Dex cried, too. •Their parents weren’t pleased, but tried to support Leanne’s decision to keep the baby •Dex went to every prenatal appointment, he kept copies of the sonogram pictures in his wallet and fell in love with the sound of the baby’s heartbeat •When they find out it’s going to be a girl, Dex starts making her a crib, he paints it a pale pink •He and Leanne are good friends, but they’re not in love. They’re okay with it •He’s there when Annabelle is born, he cries when he gets to hold her the first time. She’s so small and perfect, and he knows that he’ll never stop wanting to protect her •Leanne and his parents both insisted he take his scholarship to Samwell. He’s not sure he can bear to be away from Annie that long, it’s hard enough only seeing her a couple days a week and every other weekend. Sometimes less if hockey demands it. He thinks about quiting •He relents and goes to Samwell. He talks to Lea and Annie on Skype almost everyday, he sees her every break and it’s always excruciating leaving her again •He doesn’t tell the team. He knows they’d support him, but he can’t make the words come out •After throwing himself into course work with all the focus he can muster, determined to get through school and get a good enough job to support Leanne and Annabelle (this is why Nursey’s chill infuriates him, he can’t afford to let up or relax) •Eventually, after some not so gentle nudges from Leanne, he starts to let himself enjoy the college experience. He still plays hard, still studies diligently, but he makes friends on the team, settles in and goes to parties. It’s nice. •He keeps pictures of Annabelle in his wallet, updating it every month or so. She’s growing so fast it gives him whiplash Now the NurseyDex stuff: •When he starts to have feelings for Nursey, he’s suddenly mildly terrified Nursey will find out, couldn’t deal with his judgement, or worse, his rejection •When Nursey finds a picture of Dex with Annie that’d fallen from his wallet, Dex panics, but all Nursey says is, “She’s beautiful, she’s got your eyes, Will” (he blushes and then proudly tells Nursey all about her) •Dex let’s Nursey be in his room for one of his Skype calls. Annie babbles happily and Dex talks back, and when he glances at Nursey, he’s looking back at Dex with a soft smile that makes Dex feel warm all over •Nursey reads Annabelle poetry over Skype and Dex falls in love a little (more) •Nursey falls in love a little more every time he sees Dex talk with –or about– Annie •The first time Nursey joins Dex in Maine for break, Nursey falls in love with Annabelle too. The feeling is mutual. •Leanne tells Dex he should keep Nursey around and Dex agrees. •Nursey does too. I have a lot of feelings about this, apparently.
