Curved barrel STG-44 attachment,One of the strangest oddities of German WWII firearms was a curved barrel attachment created to be fitted to the STG-44 “Sturmgewehr” assault rifle. The purpose of the curved barrel was to actually change the trajectory of the bullet, allowing the user to fire around corners, through portholes, and over trenches without exposing himself from cover. Several models were made with curves of varying degrees. In many the bullet would break up while traveling through the barrel, making it more of a shotgun than a rifle. Usually the attachment would wear out and become useless after extended use. -- source link
