Blade length: 31.5in (800mm)The hilt of the sword is mounted with a large silver pommel cap, and a silver cross guard and collar, with a chain linking the two. The blade is a high quality, polished, European example. It has a single spine fuller, and a copper inlaid ‘dot’ near the hilt.The original scabbard looks very Indian, and perhaps suggests that this is an Indo-Arab sword. It is covered in green velvet, with a pierced silver suspension loop, and a copper chape with traces of silver.Sidenotes:The word “saif” in Arabic is a general name for a curved sword, similar to the word “saber” in English.However, in many cases, owners and collectors refers by Saif to a specific shape of a sword like the one shown here.Various blade were employed, ranging from Persian trade to European military blades.These swords are common in the Arabian Peninsula, more in its southern areas.
