oupacademic:Studyfinds potential new uses for the contraceptive pillWomen are at a higher risk of stroke thanmen and there are currently very few effective treatments. However, anew preclinical study published in CardiovascularResearch reveals that the common contraceptive pill could help mitigate theeffects of stroke on the brain. The study tested the drugs desogestrel anddrospirenone in progestin-only pills, both of which are commonly prescribedoral contraceptives, and found that the drugs helped reduce the levels of braindamage following a stroke. The treatment could be of particularbenefit to women at high risk of stroke and raises new questions about the potentialhealth benefits of the contraceptive pill.Image provided by PixabayIn the U.S., thanks to Hobby Lobby(X), among other litigants, employers with a religious, or even a “sincerely held moral conviction” not based in any particular religious belief, may chose to exclude employee insurance coverage for contraceptive pills - even if the employee use them for medical reasons other than contraception, i.e., treatment of amenorrhea, endometriosis, Primary Ovarian Insufficiency, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome…or for treatment of brain damage following a stroke.Contact your senators and representatives and ask them to support the Do No Harm Act to support the real meaning of religious freedom (X and X).
