iimperatorsupremus:~Latin for Witches (and a Spell in Latin)~Lesson I – IntroductionWe all loveLatin. Latin is a majestic, beautiful and undoubtely melodic language. It’sbased on Ancient Greek and it has been used for magical purposes for centuries.Lots of witches up to this very dayuse it for their magical workings, spellwork, rituals, incantations, etc.As we all know all romance languages (spanish, romanian, portuguese, french, italian, etc) originate from Latin, so if you happen to be a native speaker ofone of the above languages, Latin is going to be a piece of cake for you. However, even if your mother tongue IS English, Latin is going to be fairlyeasy for you, too, so GOOD NEWS HERE.In fact, most english words originate from Latin, and some of them areprecisely the same in english (words like status, ego, etc). But let’s cut tothe chase, shall we?We all knowthere’s something special, somethingmajestic, something mystical, somethingmysterious about this language. Soit’s no coincidence that people have been using Latin for their magical workingsfor so long. If you’re someone who does not practice Magick, you, too, arewelcome to join us and learn Latin. You do not need to have the pronouns with the verb forms. You can say sum, es, est, and so on, without saying ego, tu, ille, and so on, along with those verb forms. The pronouns are included with those verb forms when you really want or need to make the point of indicating the referent: sum, “I am,” but ego sum, “I am.” The i in prosperitas can be described as “‘ee’ as in tee-hee,” but its sound is shorter than that and some might hear it as the i in hit. Vowel length in Latin is not like vowel length in English, and describing the former can be difficult to do with English phonetics. Venite is an imperative form for when you are specifically addressing more than one person. If you are addressing one person, or if your command is a general one and you have no one in particular in mind, you use the singular form: veni. When it comes to imperatives, plurality in Latin does not indicate generality, politeness, etc. Dives is an adjective that means “rich” or “wealthy.” Divitiae (morphologically plural) is a noun that means “riches” or “wealth.” They are not interchangeable.Utinam hoc tibi prosit! -- source link
