This was written in 1999PUNK IS NOTHING BUT DEATHAND CRIMEAND THE RAAAAAGE OF A BEEEEAAAASSSTTTTTThis story is justBAFFLING to me Like How did this even see print?For anyone who wants to enjoy the stupidity of this story without wasting money on it I recommend either reading scans of it or watching the Atop the Fourth Wall episode where Linkara had great fun mocking just how stupid and terrible this truly was Thanks to Linkara I have learned a lot of Bruce’s opinions, like that he prefers Betamax to VHS. The story gets weirder when you learn the references involved. Like how the Fortunate Son of the title is both a reference to the Creedence Clearwater Revival son AND (more literally) a reference to how the secret villain of the story is Elvis secret twin brother (who IRL died as a baby, but there’s an urban myth that the Presleys gave him to a rich family to raise as they couldn’t afford to look after both kids) who evidently grew up to become an evil music producer with an obsession with his long lost brother.Or how Bruce learned to hate all forms of popular music because he spent a few weeks hanging out with Sid and Nancy prior to their deaths.The writer who did this story also did a story called Batman Jazz, where Batman saves an old famous Jazz player from Bebop themed super villains. Fortunate Son being written by a jazz snob makes so much sense. -- source link
