wildspacelatte: kybercrystalhealing: they’re at a party somewhere, i don’t know—the lieutenant commander has had a little too much sparkling and is flirting not-quite-shamelessly (possibly that’s why he’s had a little too much sparkling; it does make things easier). the commodore is trying to say “you don’t want this, you’re just drunk” without saying anything quite so direct. they’re going to kiss in the back of a speeder and then not talk about it for three months, as you do. This is beautiful! And did Eli try to smooth down his hair for the party? @kybercrystalhealing your various styles of character art are all so lovely, thank you for sharing your work with us! Also, what happens in three months when they DO talk about the kiss? Inquiring minds need to know <3 1. Did Eli try to smooth down his hair for the party? He did, but it’s not really holding anymore, which is probably working to his advantage here.2. What happens in three months? Eventually the perfectly serviceable silences get to Eli (not a single misstep, in their working relationship; it’s just that Thrawn stops looking at him: or rather he’ll look sometimes and then look sharply away, as though he doesn’t want Eli to get any ideas), and he sucks it up to apologize: he’s been unprofessional; he never wanted to unbalance them like this or undermine their—friendship, such as it is. Only Thrawn cuts him off with an apology of his own: an absolutely unforgivable lapse, in a commanding officer, especially when his subordinate is so obviously compromised; not the sort of thing he’s had to guard against in the past and therefore perhaps outside his realm of experience, though that is only a reason and not an excuse—Eli ploughs on: he certainly doesn’t take for granted Thrawn’s kindness to him and he fully appreciates that Thrawn would probably prefer a partner more in line with his own rank and position, someone who could bring a bit more to the table—I mean if he has any interest in sexual or romantic partners at all, and who’s to say he does, I mean obviously Eli should have thought of that, too, and now he feels even worse—precisely, Thrawn says; they are a poor match; Eli is a young man with his whole life and career ahead of him, and Thrawn belongs utterly to his cause, so much so that there isn’t much left of him to give to anything or anyone else—Anyway they figure it out eventually. -- source link
