carolyn-lives:kiara-shannon:katherinetgreat:kiara-shannon:It’s #NationalSportsBraSquadDay and I hope all you ladies know that you are perfect just the way you are and that runners come in every kind of shape and size. Embrace self love. Embrace self kindness. ❤️… Says the size 2…WHO CARES WHO SAYS IT. You don’t know me. You don’t know my long time struggle with body image. You haven’t been there in the dressing room with me and my sister when I was trying on size 8 jeans while she was complaining that her size 0′s were too big. You weren’t with me when I had my fifth stress fracture from running that my school athletic trainers attributed to low bone density that was likely from the disordered eating that I struggled with all throughout college. You weren’t with me throughout the 9 years of self harm that has left scars that will never fade. The ability to be confident in your own skin no matter what size was the message of Sports Bra Squad Day. “The #SportsBraSquad started as a way for women to ditch their shirts along with their insecurities, and show the world what strength looks like. In 2015, the National Eating Disorders Association found that 70% of women don’t like their bodies. 70%! That’s a disappointing and frustrating statistic and the only way we can combat the self loathing and hatred women feel towards their bodies is to change the way we see strength. But ditching your shirt for the first time can be terrifying! There’s strength in numbers which is why on June 24th, Sports Bra Squads around the world will be coming together to show the world that our bodies are strong as hell!”The key message here being: 70% of women don’t like their bodies. That number encompasses women of all different shapes and sizes. So just because maybe I am smaller does not mean that I don’t have days where I can’t stand looking at myself in the mirror. 70% of women do the exact same thing. So go ahead and tell yourself that I don’t get to have a voice in learning to love myself simply because of my size. But do not demean the message that all women should have the opportunity to feel confident and to be able to show their strength without worrying that others will judge them simply based on size (kind of like you just did huh?). And if you don’t like the way I look, go on Instagram and look up #SportsBraSquadDay and look at the thousands of women around the world who showed their strength and courage.I’ll say it again. Embrace self love. Embrace self kindness.HELL YES KIARA PREACH -- source link
