But it wasn’t the ‘hello sweetie’ or the ‘this is the youngest I’ve ever seen you’ scenes that did me in. It was this scene. The Doctor is tempted - so tempted to look in that book. And River has to stop him. It occurred to me watching this for the first time, how difficult must that be for River? To have to keep secrets from the man she loves (and yes I was convinced she loves him solely based on her face in the ‘Doctor, please tell me you know who I am’ scene) and to have to keep them at his request. We didn’t know the whole story then, nowhere near the whole story, but this was the moment that convinced me that River Song loved the Doctor enough to place him above her own needs. Enough to keep his secrets - even from himself.I just couldn’t imagine what that would require then - I still can’t now. But I knew that her love was going to wreck me.I like to think the Doctor thought the same damn thing. -- source link
