Peccania subnigraThis lil bitty pal is referred to as a dwarf fruticose lichen, but it is so small that it *looks* like a crustose lichen. It is made up of erect, cylindrical branches up to 1.5mm high. It is glossy black in color when moist, duller when dry, with round, concolorous apothecia. It lives in western North America, growing on soil and occasionally soft rock between sea level and 1500m elevation. Probably. Small, dark lichens do not quite get the attention they deserve, and so it may have a more far-reaching range, or may need to be divided into various subspecies in different environments. P. subnigra, we may not know as much about you as you deserve, but keep on kicking and I promise we’ll get to you as soon as we can! Until then, keep being you! Unless you need to like, evolve or adapt to our ever changing world, then like, do that please. K thanks! images: source | sourceinfo: source -- source link
