YamunaWhen god decided incarnate on earth as Govinda , he chose the forested banks of river Yamuna as his homeland . Mentioned in Vedas as the sister of Yama , Yamuna is also reffered to as Kaalindi , owing to the dark hue of her waters . Originating in Yamunotri glacier in Himalayas , 20,955 feet above sea level , the river winds its way to reach the plains where it once watered the now extinct twelve forests of Vraj mandal .Along her banks grew up the ancient cities of Mathura , Delhi and Agra , as shown by the Red fort and Taj .
