azureleon:sighinastorm:scientificphilosopher:Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz made this disgusting ‘joke’ at a recent conservative political conference. The dude creepily giggles (and the audience joins in) after admitting to beating his wife. Yeah, ‘cuz domestic violence is apparently hilarious. How could anyone want to vote this misogynistic scumsack into office??[Video][Addendum: It’s been pointed out to me that it’s an inside ‘joke’ for interviewers to ask ‘Have you stopped beating your wife?’ as a way to use the loaded question fallacy and put their interviewees between a rock and hard place. I was not aware of this, so the reference went over my head. My vitriol may have been a bit over the top, but it’s still an extremely tasteless thing to make light of (and I stand behind my use of ‘scumsack’)] Here is a rare thing that doesn’t get enough credit when it happens. Someone missteps, and then walks back over that ground with new knowledge of it. It’s so easy to play it cool, to pretend we don’t trip, and then not look back at all. I see it as a non apology. While it seemingly tries to take back their vitriol, another part tries to justify it. It’s not a joke about domestic violence, it’s mocking the journalist who tried to portray him as an abuser. That’s true too. -- source link
