On July 23, 1983, Air Canada Flight 143 was halfway through its flight between Montreal and Edmonton when it ran out of fuel at an altitude of 41,000 feet (12,500 m). All 69 people on board were at risk, but the pilot managed to land the plane safely as he had experience flying gliders. This happened because 22,300 pounds of fuel was filled instead of 22,300 kilograms (49,172 lb). -- source link
