Depiction of the Vata Uprising of the 1040s, a riot in Hungary in which pagans rebelled against the Christianization of the country, which had begun with the rule of King Stephen I. The lower classes of Hungary, who mostly believed in paganism, fought back against this and their suspicion that a Christian Hungary would become part of the Holy Roman Empire. Rebels, led by a nobleman named Vata, murdered the kings and a number of priests, as depicted above, by stoning and other means. Unfortunately for the rebels, Endre, the member of the royal family who had allied with the rebels and used their support to gain power, basically continued the policies of his predecessors.{WHF} {HTE} -- source link
