And there’s also NO WAY in which someone can take a nuanced centrist view that amounts to more than the strawman of the compulsive compromise seeker even in the face of extreme atrocities, right? And there’s DEFINITELY not a single chance that the left has any ideas that aren’t 100% good or that the right has any ideas that aren’t 100% pure evil, right?Look, you’re totally valid and I love you, but if you’re a true centrist, you’re gonna have to accept that the center has moved and you’re gonna have to embrace the left for a while if you want the true center to return.Or you can revolt. That could work too. The center didn’t really move. The left went further left.NoYes. I’m a liberal brown 2 time Obama voting registered Democrat.. Want to know what the left calls me?Fascist, Nazi, Conservatard, etc.Don’t kid yourself. The center didn’t really move. The right stayed mostly where they were at, the left went way left.Ok, but… in fear of giving the wrong impression, how do you know that that’s not the center moving and the left staying on its place?Let’s pretend that there’s a metric distance between the left and the right. If you stand in one place, the left and the right look initially at the same distance and the center is, obviously, centered. But once they start moving, those who move with it and don’t notice it moving will perceive the left getting further and further away. But if you stand immobile, it will appear as if what should be the center is way into right territory. Is the same event happening, but from different points of view. And the solution is that one side will have to give in. But neither the left or the center will admit they’re wrong. And the right is the only one benefiting from it.Personally, it think the problem is the way democracy works in the US. As in, it doesn’t. Fix that and the radicalization should solve itself. The thing is, if you are correct and I’m wrong, all we lose are a few reforms that would be nice to have but aren’t escential in the end. But if you’re wrong and my point of view is the correct one, we stand to lose everything.Because every metric has shown that the center has stayed where it is and the left has gone off the deep end.On top of that, I haven’t moved in the last decade but I’m regularly being accused of being a Fascist, Nazi, Conservative, etc from the current left. No. We lose everything if we go off either extreme. This has been proven time and time againOh, I don’t want to go to the extreme, I just want to slight a little left. Enough to kill capitalism but I’m not supposed to say that when trying to convince people because that sounds too extreme, but in reality, is not that far away from the center.I admit I could be wrong in all of this. I just don’t seem to find the information that will convince me to change my mind.Maybe another day. In another time. You just described an extreme. Killing capitalism is an extreme that has led to this in Cambodia. And this in the Ukraine. And this in ChinaTumblr won’t allow me to put more pics on the post. The fact that you dont think it’s an extreme is a great example of how the Left has gone extreme. Where killing capitalism doesn’t appear extreme to them.Calling for a more mixed economy with more social programs including universal healthcare is one thing. Calling for the end if capitalism though, is extreme.…I’m not far left, I just seek the destruction of the capitalist western society.‘Killing Capitalism is not THAT far from center!’ oh wow. -- source link
