luanna255:deconstructingjasontodd:I think scene is extremely sweet.First Dick calmly offers to bust the drug dealers’ lab together. We know Jason had fucked up the last time so this is in my opinion a very generous offer. Dick is trying to teach Jason, to help him with the experience he got as Robin and then Nightwing that Jay still hasn’t got. Then, you have Dick giving him his Robin suit. Dick was angry just a couple of pages earlier, he was punching things around the Batcave and crushing newspapers because he had been kicked out and then replaced all that easily. We know he isn’t happy about this, we know he feels Bruce had betrayed him when he took Jason in (even if Jason luckily doesn’t know that). But he’s able to look at it logically and not blame the poor kid. He willingly gives him the suit, tells him he will grow into it eventually and how he doesn’t need it any more. He doesn’t give him his blessing as Robin out loud but he’s making it pretty clear he accepts the new Boy Wonder. And last but not least, he gives him his number because he knows living with only Bruce and Alfred as company can get pretty lonely, and he doesn’t want Jason to go through that. He also encourages him to talk, to not let things bottle up inside because that’s (in Dick’s own words, and I agree) Bruce’s biggest flaw.So let’s review all Dick does for Jason in a single page:> Offer Jason help crimefighting> Give him his old Robin suit (and with it, his blessing to be Robin)> Make sure Jason has someone to talk to about his problemsA+ Dick.No wonder he’s a such a good brother and parental figure to Damian later (brb shamelessly pimping my friend’s blog).FROM BATMAN 416Reasons why your fave will never be as flawless as my fave. ;-)Also, I have said it before, I’ll say it again: Dick and Jason had a good relationship. This scene here is from the very first issue where they met. And yes, Dick was angry that he’d been replaced as Robin and Bruce didn’t have the decency to tell him, but he was only angry at Bruce. He never blamed Jason, and after he’d confronted Bruce, he was able to make peace with the idea of a new Robin. He was a sweet and supportive older brother to Jason, and absolutely devastated at his death.Jason, for his part, felt pressured to live up to Dick’s reputation, but he had no animosity towards Dick himself. He admired him and looked up to him. They genuinely liked each other.I don’t understand why DC feels the need to keep retconning this. -- source link
