I am horrifyingly late in answering this, but YAY I’M SO GLAD YOU READ THE BOOK ANON! :D Post in reference. It is only fair that Lolita ruin road trips forever for you, in much the same way that it has ruined forever for me 1. paper maps, 2. the name “Mona”, 3. playwrights, 4. lawn sprinklers, 5. tennis, etc., etc., pretty much an endless litany of things that have anything even remotely to do with the book. I’m sorry that literature ruins lives! That’s what stories turn us into, human beings unfit to navigate the haphazard and unassimilable wreckage-strewn oceans of existence but seriously folks, I don’t think I’ve ever met a book I liked that didn’t ruin every life it sidled into. WE ARE SUSTAINED ONLY BY RUIN, ANON. OUR DESTRUCTION IS OUR CREATION. Oh god this is even more needlessly wordy and nonsensical than usual, but I have a big exam coming up for which I have been mainlining nauseating amounts of litcrit, so… hopefully I will get better… sorry about this… what an awful answer to an ask dl;glkhdMore after the cut! I’m not too keen on sweets, so I gravitate towards savory pies! Steak and kidney, chicken pot, or even Cornish pasties (though that’s not really a pie, is it) (…is it? what is the definition of a pie?!) For a while now I’ve entertained the thought that I would really love eel pie, seeing as how I love love love eel, but I’ve not been able to try it yet. I’m sincerely sorry if you are vegetarian and/or came unprepared for me to digress into excessively carnivorous terrain– oh wait but I also REALLY LOVE banana cream pie! That’s one of my favorite desserts! No worries– cis female. MOM, HOW DID YOU FIND MY BLOG? I DON’T NEED YOU TO CODDLE ME, I’M A GROWN-ASS WOMAN, I CAN HANDLE THE FACT THAT MY “POETRY” IS BAD no but thank you anon, that’s really very kind of you :’( I think it’s really fun for fandom to try to translate its creative impulses into poetry, primarily because it helps us engage with the texture of the writing itself instead of just focusing on the content of what we are saying! Drawing meaning out of that deceptive simplicity is something I’d really like to practice more, and if anything, it’s always good for fandom to produce and encounter more varied types of creative output. The day when someone choreographs an interpretive dance as fanwork is the day fandom will ascend one step higher in the ladder of existence. I am deathly serious. -- source link
