strangepolitics:millennial-review:The North Carolina Republican Party is essentially staging a coup, doing everything it can to limit the power of the incoming Democratic governor. This is a blatant attempt to hold on to power that the North Carolina legislature willingly threw away by pursuing anti-trans legislation in the form of the now infamous “bathroom bill” HB2. When you make the people angry, you lose, that’s democracy. The power grab currently underway in North Carolina is not democracy. A close election followed by allegations of voter fraud and widespread institutional changes to hold on to power isn’t okay. This is unprecedented and North Carolina is a microcosm of the nation.North Carolina is one of the most closely divided states in the country. And the governors race was one of the closest in the country. This is important. When people try and break with democratic norms, when people go out of their way to extend their power in unprecedented ways, that needs to be called out. Like every state, North Carolina is a microcosm of the rest of the country and if it can happen in North Carolina, it can happen nationally. The only thing that can keep these norms intact when people seek to break them is people committed to keeping them in place.Peaceful transition of power my ass. The gop needs to be crushed -- source link
