cctbskyen:systlin:misa-nthropy:obligatorysherlockblog:lora-lovegood:drubtwopointoh:This is why Mr. Fry will always have a seat at my table.Amen.I was having a conversation about religion with this guy and he asked me what I would do if I got into heaven and had to sit next to God. I told him I wouldn’t take the seat.Yes, exactly. My gods aren’t perfect. They don’t pretend to be. And honestly, I distrust any god who claims perfection. Agnostic over here and reading the Bible I think it’s notable that in a lot of the way Christ frames Christianity, Heaven comes across not so much as a reward for goodness as it does an apology for evil. “The last shall be first and blessed are the meek and the poor for they shall inherit” and so on. Those who suffer most in this life will be compensated in the next because holding on to love and kindness and compassion in the face of suffering deserves an eternity of peace and plenty as a reward. See also: rich men and camels going through the eyes of needles.Christian institutions, especially Catholicism, then re-framed this as “We Hold The Keys To Heaven And You Must Beg For Entry” to reinforce their political power, dangling the promise of Heaven and the threat of Hell over their believers.Anyway, Christian hegemony and the mixing of church and state power in the West is some toxic-ass bullshit that civilization would be better off without. -- source link
