talusslope:wideandnarrow:Kayak at Sunset, Paines Creek Beach, Brewster, MaThanks to my parents, I got to spend many summers on Cape Cod. At first, it was for a week or so at a friend’s place. These were the beach and boogie board days. Then, after my parents bought a small place of their own, I’d spend the entire summer there, working various jobs, often more than one on the same day (dish washer, cook, motel laundry guy, kayak rental dude). The Cape is where I traded in my canoe for a sea kayak; covering seven miles in short order in the marshes near Orleans was enough to convince me it was time to move on from a single blade. Despite that, I really didn’t understand or appreciate at the time what I had access to. Photos like the one above remind me that I have some regret for not taking better advantage of my place and resources. Regret appreciated, however, isn’t a bad thing if it motivates and elevates the future, right? -- source link
