mostly-history:Stela 31 at Tikal (Guatemala), with the sculpted image of Siyaj ChanK'awiil II.This is the accession monument of Siyaj Chan K'awiil II, who reignedfrom 411 – 456 AD. It also has two portraits of his father, YaxNuun Ayiin, as a youth dressed as a Teotihuacán warrior. He carriesa spearthrower in one hand, and a shield in the other, decorated withthe face of Tlaloc, the war god of Teotihuacán.At one point the sculpture was broken, and the upper part wasritually buried at the summit of Temple 33. On the back of the stelais the longest hieroglyphic inscription from the Early Classicperiod, describing the arrival of Siyah K'ak’ at El Peru and Tikal inJanuary 378 (when warriors from Teotihuacán invaded Tikal). This isthe first stela at Tikal to be carved on all four faces. -- source link
