As the clip concluded, DeGeneres said, “They have big butts. That’s the joke.“ The entire affair, which veers into minstrel territory, played into the belittling many have tried before.Y I K E S@halloweenaesthetics when are we gonna run up on ellen? Lemme get my rings, vaseline and sneakers. So sick of EllenEwCan someone explain the issue. I’m confused. I’ll give you the places where I need help:Nicki Minaj’s booty isn’t natural, therefore it is not exclusive to nor derivative of Blackness, so making fun of it isn’t a shot at Blackness or Black women’s bodies so much as a shot at the body of this Black woman.Sigh. Even if it’s not natural (which is debatable), it’s her body she can do what ever she wants. And there is a LONG history of doing exactly this type of “comedy” when it comes to the body of black women because we tend to have the bottom heavy body shape more often than non-black women. This is literally a minstrel trope. That’s not a difficult concept to grasp. This also sexualizes a child, a young black girl. I could write you a novel on how little black girls that develop a certain way are sexualized in really creepy ways but I digress.Even if this is a “shot” at just Nicki, it’s still gross and is still misogynior and should not be excused. But it’s bigger than Nicki. ^ “It’s bigger than Nicki”Ellen is being really messy and I agree with everything said above -- source link
