justsomeantifas: Trump Administration Seeks To Put Immigrant Children in “Tent Cities”The DetailsOver the next few weeks the Department of Health and Human Services will be touring Texas’ Fort Bliss, Dyess Air Force Base, and Goodfellow Air Force Base to look for land that will hold between 1,000 and 5,000 children. The Department of Health and Human Services confirmed this news. Since the administration laid out a “zero tolerance policy” the number of children being separated from their parents has increased by over 20%. More than 10,000 children are being held in Health and Human Services approved locations, which are currently at 95% capacity. Jeff Sessions’ Role The United Nation has labeled the action of separating families as “unlawful” but Sessions has continuously defended the move. He also told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt that these children have no moral right to an attorney and admitted that he has not seen the conditions these children are being placed in. “I believe for the most part they’re well taken care of,” he said.Note that Jeff Sessions recent decision to deny asylum seekers who are fleeing domestic and gang violence also plays into this. Without these previous viable options, asylum seekers are now labeled as being here illegally with “unlawful entry.” This means that more families will be separated and more children will be placed in these camps tent cities. Joe Arpaio Inspiration?Trump has made it known how much he respects former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio who popularized his Tent City jail. Trump has labeled Arpaio as a “true American patriot” who “kept Arizona safe” by being “tough on crime.” (Note: He pardoned Arpaio in August 2017 after Arpaio racially profiled Latinos in Arizona which the Department of Justice said he exhibited some of worst patterns of racial profiling in U.S. history.) Arpaio’s Tent City has committed numerous human and constitutional rights violations. The tent’s temperatures reach up to 130 degree fahrenheit in the summer. Grown men have died from heat stroke and dehydration in this heat and many get sick during the cold winter nights and now the Trump administration wants to place children in these conditions. I will also point out that it reached 104 degrees at Fort Bliss today - one of the possible locations for this children’s version of tent city. “I already have a concentration camp…It’s called Tent City.” - Joe Arpaio -- source link
