thecharliecharmander:July 16th, 2016 | Sydney, AustraliaToday a BlackLivesMatter solidarity march was held on Gadigal land. The rally was a collaboration between African and Aboriginal communities, both of which are heavily targeted by the Australian police, and the congregation of hundreds of protestors marched through several important sections of Sydney’s CBD before assembling outside the US Consulate.Uncle Ken Canning, a Bidjari Elder, read out a statement by David Hill Snr on the murder of his son, David Dungay-Hill Jnr, in police custody seven months ago in Long Bay Jail. Comparisons have been drawn to Eric Garner’s death in New York, as his last words were identical:“My son was also crying out ’I can’t breathe’. The guards were saying to him, ‘you can breathe David, you’re talking.’ A few minutes later he was dead.”Videos of the rally, including a speech by young Gumbaynggir-Mapuche man Birrugan Dunn-Velasco, can be found here and here. The first photo of Birrugan and the third-last of Roxley Foley by Gomeroi Elder Aunty Barbara McGrady, second-last photo by Samuel Hilton, all others found at this link. -- source link
