thethroneoffirenowbelongstome:lockheed-martini:captain-price-officially:Royal Marine Commando participating in a jungle warfare exercise in Belize, Feb 2019Rare sighting of an L85A3 in the hands of the Royal Marines. Just after it entered service, just before the Marones dropped it for thr Colt Canada C7.Probably for the best. I haven’t seen any reports on the HK refurbished ones except that it’s a decent improvement from the previous models but I’d personally trust an FAL over that monstrosity. The A2 was H&K making the A1 design actually function. It remained far too heavy, and kept the shitty ergonomics, but became reliable enough, and quite accurate too.The A3 is H&K modernising them. Slightly better ergonomics, ceramic coatings to greatly reduce wear and cleaning requirements, and a new rail system.I’ve seen it said that the rifles are now “respected, if not loved,” and that sums it up. They do their job, and have some decent advantages, but are probably not the first choice for any unit with options, like the Royal Marines, hence the immidiate swap to the C7 once they got the chance. -- source link
