japan-minka:Kuribayashi Issetsu KokeshiA recently acquired kokeshi couple from the artist Kuribayashi Issetsu (栗林一雪). He was active through the 1960s into the late 1990s, and these are part of his early style.The woodworking is remarkable, and the fine details in his brush work is exquisite. The subtle carving and inlaid enamel painting for their kimono adds a level of detail, many times above the typical plain finished, more commercial kokeshi.We’re very happy to have them in our small collection. -- source link
