manticoreimaginary:For a brief stretch in London, I talked only to a phrenology bust I kept in my study. I named him Angus. Wasn’t the same.#SHERLOCK/DECENCY MIGHT BE MY ELEMENTARY OTP#the man who should stand when the call comes for the real sherlock holmes to please stand up#it’s hard to say shit about any holmes interpretation with respect to relation to the original stories#since arthur conan doyle – poor man – would revolve in his grave to know this character lives on#but this is such a faithful representation of all the things i loved about canon holmes as a kid that i have to say it#what made sherlock holmes – the original sherlock holmes – a hero#wasn’t that he was a genius!#it was that he was a genius who used his intellect to help people#who strove to right wrongs and try to bring some justice to the world#who often found himself brought low (emotionally i mean) when confronted with the cruel reality of evil men#and yes he’s brash and aloof and sometimes callous; hard to work with; hard to understand#but at the end of the day it’s his decency above anything else that maks him incredible#because the canon even goes out of his way to show us who he’d be without it: moriarty#who uses that self-same intellect strictly for his own gain#which has never occurred to sherlock holmes – in his flatshare at 221b – solving mysteries for clients he feels deserve his help#and i’m just so happy even after two full seasons to see a modern interpretation of these stories double down on the deceny thing instead of#anything else#because more than his brains or his brash attitude or his big awful hat#that’s what makes sherlock holmes sherlock holmes -- source link
