jitterbugjive: drackling: this makes me unbelievably happy actually the movie looks fucking stupid because they decided to make the fact that the whole main cast is composed of women the joke. There is nothing funny about it in the trailers other than ‘hahaha they’re women so it’s funny’. It feels really forced, unbalanced, and honestly lacking in character and good writing. I wouldn’t mind an all lady cast if that wasn’t what they were so obviously focused on. I want people, not ‘all men’ or ‘all women’. I want PEOPLE. Well as long as you’re insulting and generalizing men there’s nothing wrong with it, right? I’m sure there are some men out there that are complaining about the new GB being an all female cast, but that’s not the majority reason people are skeptical or dislike the premises. Most people, myself included, are upset because this is a reboot. Not a sequel, or next gen, or continuation, but a reboot. Why? There was no need to reboot this series; it was timeless, charming, funny, engaging, and amazing. So why reboot? Well to put it in the director’s own words, “I didn’t want them to just be given the equipment and keep the story going. I wanted them to build their own stuff and start over.” That’s right, the reason we’re getting a reboot, and ignoring 30 years of timeless fun, is because the director WANTED to start over. I could go on about all the different ways he could have kept the series going and had what he wanted, but this post is already too long. But as a male fan I felt like clarifying why I am disappointed. Its not because of the all female cast, its not because of the new gear, or the setting, or the character (what little we’ve seen of them). Its the fact that the director feels the need to wipe the slate clean and start again when there was no need, or demand to do so. I feel like the director isn’t taking the fans (young or old, male or female) into consideration, and I feel kind of like I did when I saw Crystal Skull. You wait decades for a new movie to a timeless series and *BAM* slap in the face. That’s what this feels like. So to the original writer of that post, grow up. -- source link
