Map of ancient Rome by Giovanni Piranesi, 1830s. This map is based on the extant fragments of the Severan Plan, a 3-D map of the city that was carved into marble and hung on the side of a large building in Rome during the 200s CE. The marble was shattered at some point during the next millennium, and fragments have been uncovered since the 1500s. Most of the plan is still missing.{WHF} {HTE} -- source link
