subguide:False.Vanilla relationships would benefit from the same level of open communication as the D/s counterpart but since society teaches us that it’s okay to keep things hidden, to lie as long as it’s a small fib and to argue relentlessly instead of having positive, useful communication to discuss differences of opinion. What makes this question feel like it’s true is that we emphasize the importance of open communication as a cornerstone to D/s. And honestly, if we did that for all relationships (and taught that to our children) we wouldn’t have to do that as much in the D/s world because it would be just expected; the norm. Any relationship, no matter the authority structure would benefit from open, honest communication. So, I’d reword the statement above to be:“A good relationship requires better and more open communication than today’s societal expectations.”–lunaKMMany people underestimate how much communication would impact their relationships. It makes a world of difference and a lack of effective communication is the root of more problems than people often realize. My fear of communication has often stemmed from the true fear of a negative outcome, but honestly not talking at all will lead to worse things down the road. I think if we as a society stressed the importance of communication, trust, and respect as cornerstones of a good relationship and are not “too much to ask for” or them “being needy” it would be for the better. -- source link
