captaincrusher:iamthecutestofborg: emptymanuscript: pancakeke:Lwaxana knows what the fuck is up Lwaxana has always kinda fascinated me. Like, she’s so cringey, but she’s also, I dunno, principled. She’ll hound, torment, and tease you but she won’t kick you when you’re down or judge you for being different. She’s incredibly selfish but also right up front to be giving. She’s childish as hell but she’s childish in both the good and bad ways, she’s just gonna do what she wants but she’s also giant-hearted. I dunno, she’s just… interesting. @emptymanuscript I like this analysis, I find her very interesting as well. The thing about Lwaxana is that she’s entirely her own person. Her character, as it develops, is motivated by her own ambitions, desires and quest for enjoying life. Even during her earlier appearances when her search for male companionship was played for laughs, it’s clear she’s not dependent on those men. If they exist in her life it’s because it suits her, but they never define her. When she first appeared I found her annoying because I was supposed to, but eventually I recognized that the characteristics that were framed as laughable were actually what made her great. Her open sexuality, her attitude, her loudness. The way she takes up space - physically, visually, being loud. Lwaxana always have agency. Lwaxana always takes up space. That’s supposed to make me dislike her because that’s not how female characters are usually presented. She’s kind and loving and overbearing and may seem fickle because she refuses to be defined by the expectation of others, although she’s not immune to it. She also tells the people around her that they deserve the happiness that comes from that freedom. -- source link
