bogleech:astronomy-to-zoology:Genus Duliticola (Trilobite Beetles)Duliticola is a genus of beetles found in the rainforests of Southeast Asia and India. Their name obviously comes from their similar appearance to trilobites (although I don’t see it), on the other hand their scientific name is named after Mount Dulit in Borneo. Like their Trilobite ancestors they have flat scales with larger scales on their head. The development of these beetles is unique as females stay in their larval form their entire lives, but are still bigger than the males who are alot smaller and look more like true beetles.PhylogenyAnimalia-Arthropoda-Insecta-Coleoptera-Polyphaga-Elateriformia-Elateroidea-Lycidae-DuliticolaImage Source(s)Everyone talks about how they look like trilobites and retain larval characteristics but I think their most whimsical trait is that absurdly tiny head with little knobbies on it.NOW I know what this dude reminds me of. It took me a while to remember the identity: The Waterloo Helmet. I kept thinking Sutton Hoo, and then Battersea.http://thevintagethimble.tumblr.com/post/47720425190/horned-helmet-iron-age-150-50-bc-from-the-river -- source link
