gallifreyslostson:oodwhovian:Catherine: That’s quite aggressive, isn’t it?David: It is very aggressive and it was worse in the original script. In the original script I smashed the arm on the ground and I asked if we could change that. Because it felt just…it..you’re right. It still worries me slightly when I see it, that it’s a little bit destructive frankly.- From The Fires of Pompeii commentaryI love this. David asking to change something because he thought it was too violent for the show and also probably because it was unnecessarily violent for the Doctor. The Doctor doesn’t condone unnecessary violence. I think that has been forgotten. I love that not only did he do this often, but RTD actually listened to him. Because with your own stories or stories you’re editing and still trying to fit in a larger plot, it’s easy to miss certain things. But David had such a good handle on the characterization of the Doctor that he wasn’t afraid to speak up when something was off, and RTD listened, and didn’t let his ego get in the way of good storytelling and consistent characterization. And then we got Eleven, and an actor who’d never seen an episode, and a showrunner who was too concerned about being a clever dick than actually writing anything recognizable or rational. -- source link
