palaeoverse:lythronax-argestes-the-gore-king:Lythronax’s news from the world of news!Carnufex carolinensis, destroyer of souls, bathed in the blood of innocent aetosaurs and silesaurs. With that aside, Carnufex was a crocodylomorph from right after the Permian mass extinction. We previously thought that life would take a while to recover, but, as we’ve already seen with marine reptiles, animals quickly evolved to exploit new niches. Crocodylomorphs were among them, serving as medium-sized predators. Carnufex, however, was huge - three metres long - and may have been one of the only crocodylomorphs at the top of the food chain along with Redondavenator. This means, of course, that the dinosaurs will have some competition, and Carnufex exploited this niche much sooner than expected.Reconstruction by me, and you can find the figures from the paper here.A new giant relative of crocodiles! -- source link
