culturaldispatch: Bond On A Budget I: Affordable Skyfall Inspired Looks An annual winter ritual of mine is to watch all of my favorite Bond movies (Connery films, License To Kill, GoldenEye, and the Craig films.) Anyway, while watching Skyfall I decided to see challenge myself. I’ve never attempted to photograph clothes on their own (outside of some belts for a client) and I’ve never really made an attempt to style a shoot without my fashion photographer wife to help me. These are the results of that little challenge. They are not all that great but I had fun doing it. Everything for this shoot is from my closet and was already owned by me. Prices reflect roughly what you can expect to pay for something similar from the same retailer. These are not meant to be exact reproductions but instead something is realistic for me to wear that is based on the look that the movie is going for. Scotland Jacket - Barbour ($150 on sale)Shirt - Old Navy OCDB ($25)Sweater - Top Man ($50)Jeans - J Crew Urban Slim ($60)Boots - Jeffrey Tyler ($75 Off Broadway Shoes brand)Socks - People’s Socks ($15 for two pairs)Watch - Hager Classic Commando (Rolex MilSub Homage)on Weekender Strap ($260)Scarf - Thrifted ($10) Total - $635 Scotland Inspiration Jacket - Barbour ($535)Sweater - N. Peal Cashmere Sweater ($350)Boots - Crockett and Jones Islay ($700)Watch - Omega Aqua Terra ($5000) Total - $6585 If you wondered why these are considered frugal alternatives here’s your answer. My whole outfit cost less than 1/10th of what the real deal does for just the sweater, watch, jacket and boots. Shanghai Coat - H&M ($100)Shirt - J Crew Factory ($30)Tie - J Crew Factory ($20)Sweater - J Crew ($60)Trousers - Levi’s 511 Trousers ($40)Belt - Top Man ($20)Boots - Top Man Dress Chukkas ($80)Watch - Ogi ($40) Total - $390 I have a hard time wearing this outfit out into the world. Wearing a black sweater, black tie and white dress shirt makes me feel like a security guard. Craig looks fucking great in it of course. Went with lighter colored pants to create some contrast. I threw in the watch with the colored face because this is just too monochrome for my taste. Shanghai Inspiration Coat - Billy Reid ($700)Sweater - John Smedley Bobby V ($250)Trousers- Acne Wall Street ($350)Boots - Crockett and Jones Tetbury ($650)Watch - Omega Aqua Terra ($5000) Total - $6950 Connery Suit - J Crew Factory ($300) Shirt - H&M ($15)Tie - J Crew Factory ($25) Tie Clip - Vintage ($15)Shoes - Florsheim ($100ish new but I bought them at a thrift store)Belt - J Crew Factory ($20) (I think the knit tie makes the more casual plaque belt work with the suit.)Watch - Tiger Concepts JB 5508 (Rolex Submariner Ref. 5508 homage) on Bond Strap (not NATO) ($129) Total - $584 It’s not Skyfall but you can’t do Bond looks without referencing Connery. Connery’s Bond always wore solid colors for his grenadine ties but I love the pattern on this one. It’s knit instead of grenadine but has a similar feel while being a bit more funQ Coat - Top Man ($150) Shirt - J Crew Color Block OCBD ($60) Sweater - Peter Werth ($80) Jeans - J Crew Factory Driggs Garment Dyed Denim ($40) Belt - H&M ($25) Boots - Steve Madden ($100 on Amazon) Socks - J Crew Factory ($12) Watch - Timex Weekender on Leather NATO Strap ($45) Total - $512 Could not really get close to what Q wore but I think this captures the vibe. Henchman Coat - J Crew Dock Pea Coat ($225)Shirt - Gap Modern Oxford ($35)Sweater - J Crew Factory ($50)Jeans - Levi’s 511 Garment Dyed ($50)Boots - Clark Desert Mali ($110)Socks - People’s Socks ($15 for two)Watch Cap - American Eagle ($15)Belt - Merino ($20)Watch - Orient Ray ($150)Bracelet - J Crew Factory ($12) Total - $682 I’ve been told this outfit makes me looks a 60s Batman or Bond henchman so I thought why the hell not include it. -- source link
