Plastic Pots and Baskets, Chichicastenango Market, Guatemala, 2000.Many years ago I trekked to a weekly market in the interior of Sabah, a part of Malaysia on Borneo, because it was supposed to offer some interesting crafts. Instead of crafts, there were lots of industrial products imported from outside the region, including a colorful selection of plastic pots, pails, and baskets. Subsequently I have seen such offerings in markets in many places in Asia and Latin America. These were on offer at the market very popular among tourists to Guatemala. Like many tourist oriented markets, there was a separate section catering mostly to local customers. -- source link
