Our Lady of the Fly (c. 1520). Attributed to Gerard David (Netherlandish, c. 1460-1523) and/or someone of the circle of Jan Mabuse. Isabella I of Castile is featured to the lower right, in a green dress.Isabella and her husband, Ferdinand II of Aragon, brought stability to the kingdoms that became the basis for the unification of Spain. They completed the Reconquista, ordering conversion or exile of their Muslim and Jewish subjects. They financed Christopher Columbus’ 1492 voyage.
