The sunset moth is a day-flying moth native to Madagascar..Their caterpillars feed on toxic Omphalea plants. The toxins are stored in their bodies, making them unpalatable, giving them defense against predators..Silk spun from the caterpillars mouth helps them hold on to smooth leaves and climb back to the plant if they fall. This silk has also been known to cause a euphoric high to those who consume it..Native Malagasy people call it adriandolo or lolonandriana witch translates to “spirit butterfly”..Photo: Vohimana ReserveSpecies: Chrysiridia rhipheus.Visit my webpage TheButterflyBabe.com or click the link in my bio to view all of my available art..
