Batman #118 - Bruce Got to A Billionaires’ Costume Party, A Child Makes A Questionable Choice of OutfitFollowing the end of Fear State, the people of Gotham are celebrating.. Rather, everyone except Bruce is, as he’s reached the point in his superhero career that he’s not suspiciously waiting for the next big villain plot to start… the next EVENT, lets say. This suspiciously quiet night is broken up by some folks attempting to rob a billionaires’ villain themed costume party, which Bruce is able to stop via disguising himself as Killer Croc. No rocks are thrown, alas. The daughter of one of the billionaires attending, however, has made a costume choice that even makes even Bruce momentarily pause…Admittedly it was nice seeing that Bruce gave her his autograph anyways, it’s funny to see the weird disconnect that the wealthy in Gotham have between the costumes the local villains wear and their, y’know, horrible horrible crimes.Shouldn’t be that surprising though, even in the preboot they had examples of people not really getting it. In the 1990s Starman book the original Starman, Ted Knight, recounts how he told off a parent for dressing their child in a Ragdoll shirt, when the design in question was based on a supervillain that had started a Charles Manson-ish death cult in the 1970s, for one example. For another, there’s the preboot Catwoman issue where she goes to steal a painting from a billionaire’s collection during his own villain-themed party, except his “collection“ turned out to be a bunch of Nazi memorabilia, and the painting in question was supposedly one of Hitler’s (Selina chucks it in the harbour after letting the white supremacist metahuman who was hired to guard it get run over by a subway train). -- source link
