sawyerdanver:mssawyerdanvers:What happens when the cops have to deal with the aftermath of the damages The Girl of Steel left behind ? this really shows how supergirl might actually be problematic. in superhero TV shows (and movies) they never talk about the damage or the impact on the city or casualties or anything like that so having Maggie be that voice is important or at least an interesting addition. she is on the other side and has to deal with the aftermath and has been doing it this whole time - watching criminals walk away, watching the city be destroyed, watching her colleagues get fired because suddenly there is less work for them to do and less staff needed to do it. this dinner scene is a justified and fair reaction and maggie had the right to bring it up and approach kara especially after she didn’t consult with her (the person in charge of the hostage situation) before taking over and then being insulted by her dumbass boyfriend - kara doesn’t respect those below her, she thinks she’s above the law and she’s not and maggie has to deal with what that comes with. they made maggie smart and caring and good at her job from the start it was time they gave her the recognition she deserves.this is the kind of issue season one would have dealt with - the problematization of the ‘superhero’ and what elitism comes with that and how it impacts the city separate from ‘saving the day’. especially if criminals are getting away with crimes because kara is going overboard and getting drunk on power. first, i don’t really see season one kara doing that in the first place, she was so methodical and i think monel has taken that away from her because she just reacts now, she doesn’t think things through. second, this is the kind of issues that season one would have done well - it was so good at humanising issues and staying down to earth and talking about the bigger more moral problems and now what we get is a toxic hetero relationship and aggressive, self-absorbed kara. -- source link
