botanyshitposts:mapsontheweb:Who knew the range of the Venus fly trap was so small.it’s true!! they’re lovely lads who’s habitat and range isn’t very well communicated to the public, in my opinion. it’s very easy to believe they’re native to an exotic jungle or smth when really they’re just hanging out in the american carolinas as a 100% normal and natural part of the ecosystem lmao. unfortunately, this can also make them prone to poaching, either on purpose or by accident (people who go walking in the carolina wilderness and come across them and go ‘cool!’ and take them home not knowing that they’re actually a protected species). remember that if you’re buying, never buy from people on ebay selling them bare-root, as these very well could be poached plants (usually people who have grown them themselves that are selling them will have them in pots in proper conditions). the little boxed versions you see at the grocery store, although a bit mistreated, are usually mass germinated in greenhouses and are therefore not poached. you can also opt to buy them from a grower/breeder specializing in carnivorous plants (see the savagegarden subreddit’s list of trustable sellers here!) Well I guess Carnivine’s range in Pokémon Go makes sense now!! -- source link
