You think the majority of men are given the opportunity to learn to do certain things, especially to care for a daughter? My father and my brother both have no idea how to do hair, they were never in the position where they needed to learn. I had to show both of them how to tie a ponytail when they grew their hair out a little bit. My male friend, back in eighth grade, was so excited to take Home and Careers (basically home ec.) but he was made fun of until he starting acting like he was doing “woman’s work”. I had to watch him act so differently because of blatant heteronormativity and sexism. That’s what this comes down to. In the majority of those men’s lives, if they showed any interest in something considered feminine, they’d be treated very differently. Because gender roles are a thing and they suck. My best friend has an almost three year old baby girl, and she has a fiance. Her fiance constantly has to deal with his friends giving him shit for getting his daughter ready for her day, or ready for bed, or playing with her in her toy kitchen. I’ve had the displeasure of spending time with my friend, her fiance, their daughter, and his friends, and I was disgusted by the way the fiance was treated for literally brushing his daughters hair before bed since my friend was too busy with a phone call. Maybe this would be the bare minimum for a single mother or a mother in general, but for a father, who almost definitely grew up with that stigma I’ve been talking about, it’s pretty endearing to see them go out of their way to learn for their daughter’s sake. These men are conscious, hard-working, loving, and you all wish you were half the people they are. Fuck off with your pessimistic, obnoxious, toxic comments on what should have been a sweet and uplifting post. I’m so done with the negativity where people can’t help but jump on the littlest things, when we could have had a nice moment. Congrats, you spread your hate a bit more. -- source link
