( probably not as often as the boys I must admit!) As a current recipient of the tawse I can tell you that it really hurts particularly when administered so it strikes not only the palm or back of your hand put your arm as well. Our tawse is somewhat thicker than this with only two tails and I am very regretful when I have misbehaved in a manner which earns me five or six strokes to the palm and back of each of my hands. -- source link
