April the 2nd - Memorial of the death of John Paul II (bł. Jan Paweł II/ Karol Wojtyła)Nine years ago, on April 2, 2005, pope John Paul II had returned to the house of Our Father. That day become memorable for many people in Poland. For the following days they gathered on prayers and holy masses, and joined in many spontaneous acts of commemorance. In every place, that was somehow linked to the Pope’s persona - places he had visited during his peregrinations back to country, places he had lived before, and places named after him - in all this places people had left candles. It’s also a curious coincidence, that in 1957 in Poland was established a special officium - Apel Jasnogórski - that’s held daily at 9 p.m., and now, with the death of the pope happening at 9:37p.m., that particular prayer gained another meaning. Also a song “Barka”, which has been very dear to the pope’s heart, became sort of a symbol for the time. And as years kept passing, these things has become a new tradition.Pictures above:1.
