a-miss-inside: How does a person who chooses their gender not have courage?Minor bit of backstory on this one: a while back, I came across one of my captions on a stereotypical page of toxic masculinity worship. One of the post had my caption and said something along the lines of “Can you imagine this person giving orders to a Marine platoon on the field of battle? Enough said.” The clear implication in the post was that trans people shouldn’t be in the military because they are somehow incapable of being soldiers. Trans people come from all walks of life, all races, all nationalities, all backgrounds… and each has their own motivations for everything they do, none of which might, will, or has to fit into the little boxes another person tries to put others into. A person can be trans and fight for their country, if that’s what they decide to do. This might lead to them needing to give orders in a combat situation, something the military should be able to train them to do. And if a trans person is in charge of a unit in battle, then soldiers should follow their orders just like any other officer, because being trans has no bearing on completing the mission, which is what soldiers are there to do. If your team fails the mission (and probably all get killed) because your ego made you get into a dick-measuring contest with someone who might not even want a dick, then you are part of the problem!Soldiers or housewives… secretaries or CEOs… maids or mistresses… trans people are just that: people, with each capable of so much more than society’s labeling system allows.Wow. Didn’t remember that that post bothered me that much… -- source link
