Wayne Thiebaud, Rippley Street Ridge Sun, ocean, warm, weather it all looks like a holiday, a vacation. It’s festive. The houses seem like decorations for a carnival. They look flat and suspended in the air. But the houses are not important. The main part is the street. The hidden life inside the houses is going on. The routine where the bright spots replace the dark ones, just like the shadows on the street. Everything is repeated year after year. The society is divided into circles. Some are closer to the ocean, some are not. The entire life is prescribed by laws and rules (the traffic lines on the road). -- source link
