jasonrohlf: Just unwrapped this pre Instagram “Sail” piece, 40 X 40" acrylic on panel from 2008. It was returned by a gallery. (at Williamsburg, Brooklyn) A ship is sailing across the vastness of the sea. Easy, graciously, effortlessly (yellow part on the left). But look under the curvy sail. You will see a system of ropes, pulleys, levers and knots. All this functions only by hard work of sailors, engineers and workers ( red background lines). They put a lot of effort in it (small diagonal lines in lower right corner). Want to get an easy life? Work hard! -- source link
