oldfarmhouse: Thomas Dodge was born in Ipswich in 1742. He was a fourth-generation New Englander after his ancestor Richard Dodge arrived from Dorsetshire, England in 1638. At the age of 24, Thomas was already a captain and a privateer during the American Revolution. On November 5, 1776, the British captured Dodge at Fort Washington and held him on the prison ship, ‘Jersey,’ for nine months in New York harbor. Once released he returned to Ipswich and the home he shared with with his wife, Ruth Giddings. While still quite young, Captain Dodge was already widowed twice at this point. Ruth was his third wife. They were the parents of Thomas and Mary. Additional photos show a Google Maps image of the home prior to its new color and the graves of Thomas and Mary. Thomas died at 85 and Ruth at 67. They were buried in the Salmon Hole Cemetery in Grafton, New Hampshire. HouseStories by Ken Staffey@instagram -- source link
